Academics

Our learning model and small class sizes allow for individualized support, guided practice and small-group opportunities. Our Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certified educators utilize pedagogical practices that prioritize active learning, student engagement, and various assessment opportunities. Each student is encouraged to actively participate in their own learning journeys and are held to high academic achievement standards.

The small class sizes, ranging from 10 to 15 students, ensures that each student receives the attention they require to grasp the content and excel.

Academic Structure: 2-Semesters, 4-Courses

The academic structure at the USA operates on a two-semester schedule. Each semester, students in grades 9-12 complete 4 courses.

The academic offerings through the USA program include compulsory courses necessary to earn a Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with timetables built to ensure that each student-athlete meets post-secondary requirements for their chosen pathway (e.g., NCAA Division 1 requirements outlined by the NCAA Eligibility Centre; Canadian College or University requirements). Further, each student is connected to a guidance counselor who will support them in ensuring they are meeting the requirements and have an on-site support system as they navigate the successes and challenges experienced throughout secondary school. Our school staff prioritize these relationships, check-in with students and families regularly, and encourage honest and open dialogue with a specific focus on academic achievement and goal setting.
